In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress has passed, and President Trump has signed, legislation allowing small businesses and non-profit organizations to apply for a loan/grant to cover payroll, utilities, and a few other designated expenses for a set number of weeks during our current national shut-down. This loan, if used for its intended purposes, will automatically convert to a federal grant and be forgiven by the federal government post-crisis. The Council of Trustees has determined it is in the best interests of the church to immediately apply for this program. This will help ensure retainment of our personnel and payment of basic utilities during this challenging and unpredictable time in our nation.
According to our by-laws, any debt undertaken by the church must first be approved by its members in an official member meeting. While we intend to fully comply with the requirements of this program and expect that this loan will convert into a grant with forgiveness, we are still compelled to seek congregational approval. Our by-laws also require at least 10 days advance notice for a special called membership meeting.
Therefore, a special called membership meeting is scheduled for Easter Sunday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m. via ZOOM.
For the safety and protection of all members, and due to these extraordinary circumstances, we must make the most of the digital tools available. Here is the Zoom link to join the meeting. You may also join by dialing the phone number provided below. After you dial, you will be asked to enter the meeting ID also provided below.
For additional information, concerns, or questions in advance of this meeting, please contact the church office by phone (904-396-6633) or by reaching out to any member of the Council of Trustees. Your patience, prayers, and flexibility during these challenging days are deeply appreciated.
Grace and Peace,
Dr. Gary Lee Webber
