Greg Mathews joined the pastoral staff of Southside Baptist Church in June of 2005. Having lived many places, Greg grew up mostly in Statesville, North Carolina. He comes to Southside from Indian Hills Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas, where he served as Youth Pastor.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Computer Science with a minor in Marketing, Greg went on to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, where in 2005, he earned the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree with a concentration in Student Ministry. He is single, the students at Southside keep him on his toes. He enjoys water sports, music, and great movies.
Greg has had extensive experience in student ministry. While at UNCC, Greg was heavily involved in student summer missions. During his four summers at UNCC, he served in France, New York City, and Wasilla, Alaska. He has worked with most every people group, from children to the elderly, including the French version of Alcoholics Anonymous. While working on his M.Div. degree at Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, Greg was involved with Youth Ministry Lab, the largest student planned ministry conference in the US, serving as committee chair two of the three years he was at Southwestern.
Greg believes that students are loved and used by God, and that He wants to do amazing things in their lives. He believes that they are the church of today (though they have special needs to be met), and as such are called to the service of Christ as much as any other believer. He has a passion to help disciple and to equip these special people for God's ministry, and to watch what He wants to do through them.
